![]() New England's Mountain FlowersJeff Wallner & Mario J. DiGregorio. New England's Mountain Flowers: High Country Heritage. Mountain Press. 1997. Some may be asking why I would mention a book this old. The answer is simple: this may be the only book that deals specifically with the mountain plaints in the New England Region. It is also written so even the amateur naturalist can understand it. The plants are organized by common name rather than by their scientific name. Most amateurs haven't advanced to the point of even knowing scientific names. A brief introduction teaches about the mountain geography of New England. Then two pages are used for each plant discussed. One, using the plant's common name for its title, talks about the plant and where it might be located. This is accompanied by a page of one or more photographs of the plant being discussed. This is one of those books that belongs in your backpack. It is lightweight and small enough to fit even a tote bag. |
